Shilpa Shetty is a popular actress and model. Shilpa was born in Mangalore on 8th June 1975 to Surendra and Sunanda Shetty. Shilpa has appeared in nearly 40 Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films.

Shilpa Shetty made her debut in the film Baazigar in 1993 and was nominated for her role. The following year she delivered another blockbuster hit 'Main Khiladi Tu Anari' where she starred with Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. Her performances in Dhadkan (2000) and Rishtey (2002) were appreciated, while her portrayal of an AIDS patient in Phir Milenge (2004) won her many accolades.

Shilpa Shetty was crowned the winner of the British Celebrity Big Brother TV show in 2007. With the win Shilpa was albe to re-establish her status in Bollywood. Today besides acting Shilpa is an investor in the IPL cricket team Rajasthan Royals, an investor in a fast food chain in England.

Her younger sister Shamita Shetty is also a Bollywood film actress.

Even Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chanchellor Gordon Brown, while visiting India, condemned these acts of unfairness and intolerance (January 2007).
Beside her native language Tulu, she speaks English, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and Urdu.
Shilpa's cousin - Prem Shetty - was credited with a 'Special Thanks' on the acclaimed Indian art house film entitled 'The Last Monk' which premiered at the Cannes FIlm Festival 2006.
